Preventative health and screening galore
Jan 22, 2025
Does this really come up?
Yes, really!
But why I hear you ask? Because it is on most curricula!
But really?
Let’s take another look at the RACGP Curriculum Domains 2022 - Accessed here - RACGP Curriculum and Syllabus for Australian General Practice 2022
- Communication skills and the patient-doctor relationship
- Applied professional skills and knowledge.
- Population health and the context of general practice
- Professional and ethical role
- Organisational and legal dimensions
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
- Rural Health
It sure is there. And they are dead easy marks.
Why so?
Because these are very tricky to write well, so the pool of exposure is limited.
There is a way to answer these questions though – as you need to strike a delicate balance between specificity and breadth.
Hot issues that surface include:
- Cervical screening
- Breast screening
- PSA testing
- Bowel cancer screening
- Cardiovascular prevention – lipids and blood pressure
- Smoking cessation
- Alcohol misuse
Let the PassGP Examiners step you through how to answer these well. For now, read up on the relevant guideline –and pick a national guideline (these exams are after all applicable to the whole country).
